Like any 3-wire control, the 48245 comes configured for easy wire-for-wire replacement of any 3-wire control, including the Honeywell R8184G. You can wire it up like any 3-wire control and be done – or use the additional blue/ignitor wire in the box which, when connected (see diagram below), will automatically activate the control’s Smart Ignition features. When Smart Ignition is activated, the 48245 runs the ignitor in Interrupted Duty whenever possible to dramatically extend the life of the ignitor/transformer and electrodes. Smart Ignition automatically switches to Intermittent Duty (often called “constant duty”) when needed to ensure flame retention and eliminate unnecessary service calls. In a typical home, Smart Ignition can reduce the ignitor run time from 1,000 hours to under 50 hours per year.
